About me

Professional portrait of Leticia, a medical writer with expertise in healthcare communication and scientific content creation.

I’m Leticia Torres, PhD, a medical writer and plain language strategist with 15 years of science communication experience.

I help healthcare providers, health innovation companies, and researchers explain complex information without losing scientific accuracy. My work includes patient education, product and program communication, and scientific publications.

My background in biology helps me understand the science behind the message. My experience as a writer and editor helps me organize that information around what each audience needs to understand and do.

Why this work matters to me

My commitment to accessible health information also comes from personal experience. During a family health crisis, I saw how difficult it can be to find information that is both scientifically reliable and easy to understand.

That experience strengthened my belief that people should not have to choose between accuracy and clarity. Health information can preserve the science while helping people understand their options and decide what to do next.

The experience behind my work

My experience spans biological research, scientific publishing, plain-language editing, and public-facing health communication. This background allows me to consider both sides of the communication: whether the science supports the message and whether the audience can understand and use it.

I also create and adapt English–Spanish communication with attention to meaning, audience, and context rather than relying on word-for-word translation.

How I approach communication

I begin with the audience: what they already know, what they need to understand, and what they need to do with the information.

I then organize the content so the main message is easy to find, the evidence is presented at the right level, and the next step is clear.

Plain language is not about reducing meaning. It is about reducing the friction that prevents people from understanding and using information.

If you need to make complex health or scientific information clearer for the people you serve, I would be glad to discuss your project.

AI use & disclosure

I use AI as a supporting tool, never as a substitute for scientific judgment, editorial responsibility, or source verification.

I’m a big fan of Leticia’s writing. It's consistently smooth, effective, and enjoyable, effortlessly capturing broad concepts and intricate details. More importantly, she is a writer with ideas, integrity, and dedication to serving others and the community.
